Cover for overseas travel

Know Before You GoBefore you travel it's important to make sure you know what protection you have and what to do should an emergency arise. Here we've provided a summary of the benefits but please check your plan documents for full details of your travel cover.

Don't forget to pack your plan information and the telephone numbers you'll need should you have to claim while you're overseas. We also recommend you visit the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for the latest travel advice before you go on holiday or take a business trip.

Personal healthcare

There are two levels of Travel Cover under personal healthcare, so check your certificate of insurance to see which level applies to your plan. Here's a summary of the benefits:

Overseas medical expenses    
Charges for hospital treatment including accommodation, operating theatre charges, surgical dressings and drugs, and diagnostic tests including scans.
Also specialists' fees for in-patient and out-patient treatment.

Repatriation expenses (if required to be flown home for a medical reason)

Transfer of body or ashes back to the UK (£50 excess does not apply to this benefit).

Primecare Gold or Primecare Plus

The following benefits are included:

Worldwide travel cover
For any number of trips up to 90 days each involving business or leisure travel outside the UK
 
1. If you are taken ill overseas
All of your overseas medical expenses:

Charges for in-patient hospital treatment and accommodation, including nursing and drugs prescribed in a ward
Diagnostic tests including pathology, radiology, CT, MRI and PET scans
Radiotherapy and chemotherapy
Surgeons', anaesthetists', physicians', physiotherapists' and specialists' fees for in-patient and day-patient treatment

Additional accommodation costs and travelling expenses if another insured person travelling with you needs to stay or travel with you

2. Repatriation expenses
if you need to be flown home for a medical reason
Full cover up to £10 million
3. Loss or damage to your personal belongings Up to £1,500
4. Loss of personal money Up to £500
5. Loss of your passport Up to £150

Winter sports cover
up to 17 days, in addition to the medical expenses cover above:

A £30 excess per person applies to each claim for medical expenses (item 1), loss of money (item 4) and personal liability (item 9).

A £50 excess per person applies to each claim for loss or damage to personal belongings (item 3) and any claim under winter sports cover.
