As Core Healthcare contains many of the essential elements of health insurance, it forms the basis of your plan.
It includes the usual in-patient and day-patient treatment benefits, along with added benefits that help you look after your health day-to-day - such as our Health and Well-being service and our GP Consultation Line.
Our cancer cover
We understand how traumatic cancer can be, both for the person who has it and for their loved ones. Our comprehensive cancer cover allows anyone who has health insurance from Standard Life to focus completely on their treatment and recovery.
We believe in being clear and open about our cancer cover so that you know exactly where you stand. It includes:
Full cover for investigations and tests needed to diagnose the condition including CT, MRI and PET scans where appropriate
Full cover for surgical treatment to remove the cancer and subsequent reconstructive surgery where appropriate
Full cover for radiotherapy and chemotherapy (including hormone or bisphosphonates therapy, if given at the same time as chemotherapy)
Full cover for biological therapies such as Herceptin or Avastin for a maximum treatment period of 12 months
Full cover for stem cell therapy
Full cover for follow-up consultations with a specialist for up to five years following surgery or therapy to confirm that the cancer has not returned.
We will cover both the treatment of new cancers and secondary cancers (metastases) whether treatment is received as an in-patient, day-patient, out-patient or, where medically appropriate, in your own home.
However, like most other insurers we don't cover some types of treatment. These include preventative treatment such as vaccines or the removal of healthy breast tissue to prevent breast cancer, experimental or unproven therapies that are not recognised in the UK, biological therapies that go on for longer than 12 months, and treatment that is intended solely to relieve symptoms, including terminal care or hospice care.
