Applying for a position
Experience has shown us that people are happier doing a job for which they are adequately equipped, so we take our time to make sure that we recruit the right person for the right job. Depending on the role you apply for, you may be asked to take part in one or more of the following:
A Competence-Based Interview
Rather than ask you a series of questions about how you might deal with certain tasks or situations, we will ask you how you have acted in real past circumstances. For example, instead of asking: 'How would you deal with a customer who did not understand a letter they received from us?' We might ask you: 'Tell us about an occasion when you had to help a customer, what the problem was and what you did to resolve it?'
We think it's better for you and us to discuss how you actually do things, rather than how you imagine you might.
Occupational Testing
Occupational tests look at skills you will need in the workplace. These might include tests relating to your verbal and numerical ability, or specific technical skills you will need for your chosen role. You can find out more about occupational testing at:

An Assessment Centre
Sometimes we ask a number of people who are considering joining us to attend an assessment centre. Here we can conduct a range of interviews and tests at one convenient location.
A Presentation
If the role you are applying for requires you to be able to present concepts and solutions to people, we may ask you to make a presentation on an agreed subject to one or more people.
The important thing to remember is that our goal is the same as yours: to make sure that the right person is doing the right job - that makes both of us happier and even more successful.
